There is also another benefit for you to discover later. The hardware remains useful 2 to 3 times longer than a typical Windows machine.

In 2002 I bought an iMac G4 for my database and web work. It's running 10.4 now, and is still fast enough for day to day work. It's still a pleasure to use, although I often notice the need for a larger screen and the transparent keyboard case shows all the crud that's accumulated inside. It's done its 5 years without a hitch and is about to become the kitchen computer, mainly for web browsing and email. I'll get a new keyboard and I expect it will be useful for several more years.

I'll replace it with a new 24" iMac and that looks as if it should last even longer.

I was honoured to to be able to consider as a friend the late Milton Friedman (1912-2006). He was, as a I recall, an ardent
Mac user which once emerged in our discussions.

Thanks for the article link, Scott. Great read and I think they're right. It's a bit of Vista, a bit of overall Windows fatigue, and just the fact that if you're going to spend $1500 for a computer, you might as well get one that's sleek, modern looking without the tech or hardcore look with a UI that is gorgeous.

Chuck, it's amazing how many people I've talked to recently who own Macs. People I'd never have given a second thought about. And they love them. That's the consensus. I'm excited to be joining the fold. It can't happen soon enough.

Great story. I have been a Mac user for 20 years. From what you are saying, it looks like, given a rational look at a Mac, many will switch (and have been). When so many die-hard, long-time Windows users are switching it means there is a trend and it is for real. Good luck and welcome!
